BTSM bashes the use of AI for music production
BTSM is making its stance clear: AI has no place in the creative process of music production.
Black Tiger Sex Machine, known as BTSM, is taking a strong stance against the use of artificial intelligence in music production, arguing that AI threatens the creative process that makes music meaningful. In a recent post, the electronic music group pushed back against the idea that AI should simply be viewed as another creative tool.
“Stop saying AI is a tool,” BTSM wrote. The group argued that AI does more than assist artists, claiming that it can remove important parts of the creative process while relying on work created by artists in the first place.

BTSM also rejected the idea that the creative process is something that should be avoided or made easier. The group emphasized that the process of creating music is an important part of being an artist, even when that process can be difficult or time-consuming.
The post received support from several commenters. One person wrote that BTSM had “hit the nail on the head,” while another argued that without the creative process, there would be nothing for AI to copy. Another commenter compared using AI to ordering food at a restaurant and then claiming credit for making the meal.
However, not everyone agreed with BTSM’s position. Some commenters argued that AI can still be considered a tool, even if they do not believe it belongs in the artistic process. One commenter summarized that position simply: “It is a tool … but not for art.”
The discussion highlights a growing debate within the music industry over how AI should be used. As the technology becomes more common, artists and producers continue to question whether AI can support creativity without replacing the human effort behind it.
