The future of sound: How L-Acoustics’ new technology is redefining the way we listen to music

Using L-Acoustics DJ technology, a new wave of immersive sound is reshaping how festival-goers hear and feel music.

Stepping into the S3QU3NC3 Stage at III Points, it became clear right away that this wasn’t a typical festival sound setup. Instead of music blasting from one direction, the sound moved naturally across the room. It didn’t overwhelm; it surrounded. The whole space felt open, detailed, and surprisingly comfortable, even during heavier moments. It felt less like listening to a performance and more like standing inside the mix.

This jump forward didn’t appear overnight. III Points has partnered with L-Acoustics for eight years, consistently pushing festival audio beyond traditional stereo setups. Last year’s 444 stage introduced many attendees to the L-ISA immersive approach. This year, the debut of the S3QU3NC3 Stage brought in L-Acoustics’ latest spatial DJ technology in an 8.1 configuration featuring eight L2D arrays, designed to elevate how sound is shared across a crowd.

While exploring the system, I watched Djs Soy Pasha and 2Clutch experiment with the technology alongside the L-Acoustics team. The moment the room filled with their first track, Soy Pasha said, “It feels like the sound is coming alive around me instead of just in front of me.” Tracks they knew well suddenly unfolded in three dimensions with no stems, no prep, just their usual music taking on a new shape. Later, hearing Coffintexts perform live on the S3QU3NC3 Stage made it clear how that same sense of movement translated to a full dancefloor.

What stood out most was the balance. The sound was powerful and present, but never harsh. You could dance, move, and still talk to someone next to you without shouting. Even after hours at the stage, the mix stayed clean and comfortable. It didn’t rely on extreme volume to make an impact, and instead used space, clarity, and distribution.

The idea behind the system is straightforward: take a traditional DJ setup and give it the ability to project sound in three dimensions. Instead of all the energy coming from the front, elements can move subtly through the room, sit above the crowd, or spread evenly across the space. It makes the music feel more alive and gives artists an extra layer of expression.

III Points has always blended music, technology, and art in creative ways, and the S3QU3NC3 Stage continued that tradition. It was all about improving the way people experience sound together. The stage made the listening experience more dynamic, more comfortable, and more connected.

Walking away from the set, it was clear that immersive sound isn’t just a cool extra for festivals, it’s the direction the entire industry is heading. L-Acoustics showed that when audio is designed to be shared evenly with the crowd, the energy on the dancefloor shifts. People connect more with the music and with each other. And that’s what a great festival moment is all about.
