Kings of Leon’s Matthew Followill to release solo electronic album
The Kings of Leon guitarist unveils ‘If We’re Apart, I’m Somewhere Missing You’, a 26-track electronic and ambient album released under his CMF alias.
Matthew Followill, founding member and lead guitarist of the Grammy Award-winning rock band Kings of Leon, has stepped into new creative territory with the release of his first solo album, ‘If We’re Apart, I’m Somewhere Missing You’. Released on June 19, 2026, the 26-track project arrives under his electronic alias, CMF.

The album reveals a completely different side of the musician, known for crafting some of Kings of Leon’s most recognizable guitar riffs and atmospheric textures. Followill’s guitar work helped define the band’s signature sound across multiple albums, including hit songs such as “Use Somebody” and “Sex on Fire.” While his contributions to the band’s success are undeniable, this solo effort showcases a more personal and experimental artistic vision.
What makes the project particularly compelling is the motivation behind its creation. Time away from the demanding touring and recording schedule allowed Followill to slow down, explore new sounds, and create without expectations. Rather than following the traditional formula of a commercially driven release, the album serves as a creative outlet rooted in curiosity and artistic freedom. At its core, the project is about reconnecting with the simple joy of making music for the sake of making art.
Followill described the album as a reflection of everything he has collected throughout his life and travels, both musically and personally. The project also mirrors the sounds he naturally gravitates toward as a listener. For fans, it offers a rare glimpse into his inner world, one shaped by years on the road.
Drawing influence from ambient music and folktronica, ‘If We’re Apart, I’m Somewhere Missing You’ blends textured electronic soundscapes with organic instrumentation and evolving arrangements. Rather than being built around individual singles, the album was designed to be experienced as a complete journey from beginning to end. The result is an immersive listening experience that highlights Followill’s creativity beyond the boundaries of rock music and introduces listeners to a new chapter in his artistic evolution.
