EXRON EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: SAYMYNAME

We linked up with SAYMYNAME this past weekend at Electric Zoo in New York City to discuss everything from the creation of HARDTRAP to future collaborations in the works. SAYMYNAME aka the ‘Godfather of HARDTRAP’ uses his background from LA to influence his music to create the high energy sets that the fans can’t get enough of.  Read our full interview with SAYMYNAME below and be on the look out for some exciting collaborations.

Exron Music: How do you think being from LA shaped your influence in music and desire to create?

SAYMYNAME: The big part about being from LA and my creative influence I can contribute to West Coast culture and influence. Growing up, I was listening to Tupac, Snoop, and Dr. Dre who’s one of my favorite producers.  I got into hip-hop because of Dr. Dre before I got into dance music. There’s a big part of California in my music for sure.

Exron Music: You are known to many as the ‘Godfather of HARDTRAP’, what is it about trap music that you identify with as an individual and an artist?

SAYMYNAME: ‘HARDTRAP’ is a genre I created and it’s just hardstyle and trap music together. It really is my image and obviously I play more than just hardtrap but I feel like that’s my major contribution to the dance music scene.

Exron Music:This weekend you dropped a new track with Riot Ten called ‘Glocks’ ft. Milano the Don. Can you tell us about this collab?

SAYMYNAME: Yeah, Riot Ten and I go back.  We are really good homies, we’ve been talking about this for a minute and we finally got together and with some good creative ideas.  We wanted to mix his dubstep sound with hardtrap and just make something that the fans will go crazy to.  We wanted high energy and a little bit grimy, so just a combination of our two sounds together.

Exron Music:All of your music is super high energy, making all your shows and festival appearances fun for everyone. What is your favorite thing to see in the crowd during your set?

SAYMYNAME: My favorite thing to see during a set is just the smiles and the positive reactions and sometimes you catch them off guard. But yeah, just the happiness from the fans. If you aren’t having a good time then I’m not doing my job.

Exron Music:Earlier this summer you announced your 2019 residency at the Wynn Las Vegas. How does the experience of playing in Vegas differ from other cities for you specifically?

SAYMYNAME: I feel like it comes down to the music.  I still bring the energy and play hardtrap and dubstep but I did debut and play my series the “Drip Set” which is more hip-hop and a little more commercial but still me. Most of the Vegas sets I play are “Drip Set”.  It’s fun it does really well in Vegas.

Exron Music:You recently played EDC Vegas and absolutely killed three separate sets. What is the best part of playing such large-scale festivals like EDC and Electric Zoo?

SAYMYNAME: The diversity.  Also getting to introduce my music to the fans that have traveled from different parts of the world.  That’s a big takeaway for me.

Exron Music: We love keeping up with your new music and endeavors as an artist. Do you have any Saymyname news you can share with us?

SAYMYNAME: New music on the horizon.  I have a big collab with Afrojack and R3hab and also some singles coming up.  And always some more shows.
