What is the beef between Alison Wonderland and Billie Eilish fans?

Alison Wonderland’s cryptic post sparks speculation among fans, leading to accusations of artistic theft involving Billie Eilish.

Over the weekend, Alison Wonderland made an X post that read, “A big artist just stole my entire whyte fang setup. I’m heartbroken because I invested all my money into this project trying to make it original and different. Losing money at shows so I can build a unique staging production and experience and they just straight up stole it. Not in a good headspace.” Earlier this year, Alison Wonderland alluded to the notion that Grimes and Anyma copied her visuals in their Coachella performances, noting that their visuals were “incredibly similar” to hers.

Alison’s X post has since been removed, but rhetoric among fans of both artists on X has continued. According to various posts by fans discussing the issue, Alison Wonderland has accused mega pop star Billie Eilish of this creative infringement.

With her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour kicking off at the end of September, it has been revealed that Billie Eilish’s stage design features a massive lighted cube. Since Alison Wonderland’s side project, Whyte Fang, also features a massive cube on stage, fans have assumed that Alison Wonderland accused Billie Eilish of artistic appropriation.

While Billie Eilish has not responded to the claims, her fans have quickly come to her defense. One person posted to X, “Billie has 7M followers Alison barely has 323K.” Another user wrote, “How could Billie Eilish steal such a BASIC concept of a light up cube from Alison Wonderland? Flying Lotus and Deadmau5 have done something similar before, so did Alison steal? There are arguably more mainstream artists that she would’ve got this idea from. That is my point

Plenty of fans have come to Alison’s defense on X as well, in addition to those who have asserted neutrality on the matter. However, the fact still stands that Alison Wonderland has not verbally confirmed which artist she originally posted about, nor what the artistic infringement actually entailed. Earlier this year, Alison Wonderland accused Grimes and Anyma of copying her visuals in their Coachella performances.

In the midst of the drama, Alison Wonderland wrote, “I never even called anyone out specifically or specified what had happened or who did it, because there’s more to the story which I won’t be public about. But do I regret tweeting today because people like to create their own narratives out of everything. :)” At the time of writing this post, the alleged accusation by Alison Wonderland against Billie Eilish is purely speculative.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!

What's your reaction?
