Eddy Palermo sets Guinness World Record for longest distance run while DJing
Miami electronic artist Eddy Palermo has become the first person in history to run an ultramarathon while DJing live, setting a Guinness World Record on August 8th for the greatest distance run whilst DJing in eight hours.
Palermo covered 46.7 kilometers over eight continuous hours behind the decks at The Underline, the ten-mile linear park running from Brickell to Dadeland. He returned the following day to finish the remaining distance on a treadmill, bringing his total to a full 50k. The previous record on the books was a marathon while DJing, meaning the only route past it was ultramarathon distance.
The feat required custom hardware. Palermo pushed a self-built DJ rig mounted on wheels, a roughly 70-pound cart carrying an AlphaTheta OMNIS DUO controller, with WAVE EIGHT speakers handling sound for spectators along the trail. The whole thing was live-streamed.
“That was a wild ride,” Palermo said afterward. “That was the longest DJ set I’ve ever played, and the 2nd longest run in my life. Doing both at the same time is hard to describe. Not to mention this was peak Miami summer heat and I pushed a 70lb cart the whole time. Sometimes I was deep in the pain cave and would go ‘Oh no… I have to DJ right now’ as the song was ending.”
He arrived well prepared for the endurance half. Born in Miami to Cuban and Italian parents and raised in Weston, Florida, Palermo completed fourteen endurance races between 2020 and 2025, including seven Ironman competitions and seven marathons.
The record attempt doubled as the launch of BPMATHON, a new event series built around the fusion of running and music, and as a fundraiser for Friends of The Underline, the Miami nonprofit turning public space into places for active living, with a $10,000 target. Spectators were invited to jog a mile alongside him or roll up on a bike, entirely at their own risk.
Eight hours, one continuous set, no stopping the music…
