Cosmic Gate shocks fans with decision to split ways after 30 years

For nearly three decades of shaping trance history, Cosmic Gate now splits — ending an era we thought would never fade.

After spending nearly three decades shaping trance music together, Cosmic Gate has entered a new chapter. Nic Chagall and Stefan Bossems, also known as Bossi, have confirmed they have parted ways after 27 years, bringing one of electronic music’s most enduring partnerships to a close. For fans who have measured their lives in BPMs and breakdowns from based eurodance to the modern melodic trend, the news has landed somewhere between heartbreak and deep gratitude.

The duo shared that Bossi has decided to step away from touring, a move that has ultimately led to his departure from the project. The announcement has been framed with warmth rather than drama, emphasizing respect, friendship, and pride in what has been built since the late ’90s. In an industry where breakups often come with subtweets, shocks and side-eyes, Cosmic Gate has opted for hugs and mutual appreciation.

Since launching the project in 1999, Cosmic Gate has helped define trance across generations. From festival mainstages to late-night club moments that have caught ravers’ attention, whether by catching on to more trance or by producing the sub-genre, their catalog has become a rite of passage. Tracks like “Exploration of Space” and “Fire Wire” have not only filled dancefloors but have also soundtracked countless first shows, last songs, and “I swear this drop changed me” moments.

As Bossi steps back, Nic Chagall has prepared to carry Cosmic Gate forward solo. He has confirmed that new music has already been in motion and that the project’s next era has been taking shape. Upcoming tour dates have remained intact, including appearances in Manchester, A State of Trance Festival, and Dreamstate, proving the artist’s name doesn’t end there.

Cosmic Gate

Cosmic Gate has most recently wrapped their ‘Perspectives’ releases, following ‘Mosaiik Chapter One and Two‘ adding a legacy built on consistency and evolution. They have appeared in DJMag’s Top 100, festival lineups, award nominations, and personal playlists for decades — a run most artists only dream about.

While the future has looked different for the iconic trance duo, the past has remained untouchable. Long story short, Cosmic Gate has not ended; it has evolved. In their announcement on Instagram, fans, artists, and faces of trance flood the comment section with supporting heart emojis, reminiscing on the shows and fun they’ve played, and a massive amount of heartwarming gratitude for putting themselves out there!
