ALOK has unveiled his underground alias ‘Something Else’ with the debut single “Miçanga,” blending Latin and Afro house with fresh creative energy.
GRAMMY-nominated producer and Brazilian dance music icon ALOK has unveiled his new experimental underground moniker, Something Else. This marks an exciting chapter in ALOK’s career, showcasing his ability to evolve and explore fresh creative territory. The debut single under this alias, “Miçanga,” featuring Stephan Jolk, BaianaSystem, and Kawz, has been officially released on CONTROVERSIA.
“Miçanga” has blended Latin and Afro house influences, bringing together the vibrant energy of BaianaSystem with Stephan Jolk’s groovy, emotional production. The track reimagines BaianaSystem’s 2020 hit with smooth tropical vibes, layered percussion, and pulsating rhythms. ALOK’s personal touch, alongside the contributions of Kawz, has added a deeper melodic dimension, resulting in a high-energy dance floor anthem.

For over a decade, ALOK has dominated the electronic music scene, collaborating with global artists such as John Legend, Dua Lipa, and Tove Lo. Known for his fusion of Brazilian rhythms with house and pop sensibilities, he has performed in front of massive festival crowds, earning him the title of #1 DJ in Latin America. With Something Else, ALOK is returning to his roots, embracing a stripped-down approach that prioritizes raw, underground sounds.
The debut of Something Else occurred at Universo Paralello Festival in Bahia, Brazil, and was followed by an electrifying performance at Zamna Tulum Festival. These live showcases highlighted the alias’s fresh identity and its connection to ALOK’s heritage. In a recent Billboard interview, ALOK shared how this project allows him to connect more intimately with audiences and rediscover his passion for music-making.

Stephan Jolk’s involvement has brought a distinct flavor to “Miçanga.” A versatile DJ/producer with releases on prominent labels like Afterlife and Watergate, Jolk has infused the track with his signature groovy and emotional style. Together, the artists have delivered a track that celebrates unity, identity, and the vibrant spirit of Afro-Brazilian music.
With Something Else off to a groundbreaking start, ALOK fans can anticipate more innovative releases as he continues to push boundaries in electronic music. “Miçanga” is now available on all streaming platforms, setting the tone for a year of bold new sounds.
