6 Hidden Gems of Suwannee Hulaween

Suwannee Hulaween is a festival of history, culture, and art. In addition to inviting some of the most coveted acts in music to grace its stages, the festival is home to a number of hidden gems that are worth uncovering. These six breathtaking Hulaween gems are why we have the festival at the top of our must-attend list every year.

The Bat House

If there’s one thing Spirit of Suwanee Music Park isn’t short of… it’s bats! These benevolent creatures have made their home at the “Bat House” situated on the park’s campgrounds. They sleep all day and scatter at night to find food, acting as the park’s natural pest control service. If you dodged mosquito bites all weekend, you know who to thank. The real hidden gem, however, is at sunset when guests can observe the bats as they fly from the Bat House one by one to prepare for their night out.

House of Lost

House of Lost is just as ambiguous as its name suggests. This massive art installation is situated near Spirit Lake and is home to some of the most obscure music acts you might witness all weekend. Stumble into House of Lost one late night to discover a full-blown rock concert being held within its walls. Secret doors and passages are scattered throughout, so visitors, beware.

The Casino

Tucked away at Spirit Lake is a gambling experience you’ll never forget. The Casino consists of the famous Frick Frack Black Jack, where patrons can bet anything but cash for outlandish prizes. The gambling continues late into the night and the later it gets, the weirder the bets become. Not to mention, the dealers are quite the characters themselves!

Suwannee River

Off the beaten path, guests might encounter the Suwannee River, which partially runs through the north and east parts of the campgrounds. Sit at the river to take in its beauty, or immerse yourself, literally, into its spring-fed waters. Guests are advised to swim at their own risk, but it’s generally safe especially if you bring a buddy.

The Swings

A Spirit Lake favorite, the swings are the perfect spot to hang out (literally) and release your inhibitions. The jellyfish-esque playground invites people of all ages to enlighten their inner child. Although with its vibrant blue lights it’s hard to miss, we would still consider the swings a Hulaween hidden gem!

Mural Maze

The Mural Maze is just as magical as it sounds–a collection of lifesized murals that patrons can become lost in as they stroll through. Featuring some of the most celebrated visual artists in the industry, including Anamorphosis Art, Andrew Wagner, and Art of Slim, the Mural Maze has been a Suwanee Hulaween staple for nearly a decade. For those who love art or simply those who are looking for a spot to relax, the Mural Maze is the perfect retreat for a restless mind.

These are just a few of the hidden gems hiding in Hulaween’s oak-covered grounds. Although some of these gems are repeat favorites, each year brings an undeniable fresh sense of magic that you can feel in your bones. Until next year, we’ll be busy reliving these epic moments.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
