Vintage Culture Performs at Claptone’s Miami Masquerade for Art Basel – [READ]

This legendary venue in Miami does not miss.

Art Basel – a rare wrinkle in time when Miami promoters, LA influencers/models, bespectacled art aficionados, and humble simpletons may socialize and appreciate art and culture in unison. Art Basel – also an excuse to throw wicked, gnarly, mind-melting raves. And although Miami’s best annual event has come and gone like a whisper in the wind, the performances from world-renowned DJs still have us reeling.

In a quaint corner of the literal hood festers Factory Town, a labyrinth of oddly designed, oblong warehouses and gravel lots. For the locals, Factory Town is infamous for dust bunnies and feral cat colonies, wild-western auto shops, and, at night, some of the sickest raves in Miami. The artistic directors of the venue, Link Miami Rebels, seldom miss and often throw grime-scene bacchanals, replete with everything you could ever want, need, or love at the rave (i.e. food trucks with vegan options, multiple stages of different sizes, nooks and crannies designed for trippy explorations, etc.).

Although Factory Town was lit ablaze for all of Basel week, the venue really got it poppin’ Sunday night for the closing ceremony of sorts. Purple Disco Machine brought light and levity to his set with some funky, seventies tunes (no surprises there) as well as effortless mixes and transitions. After Purple left the stage, the masquerade began and Claptone performed for hours on end.

To bid adieu to the night and welcome the morning, Vintage Culture took to the stage and dished the rave’s closing set. His music was part techno and part house, with pop influences and a splash of funk. This was the second Basel performance for Vintage – the night prior he closed for the world famous elrow.

The atmosphere of Factory Town, plus the music and energy from Vintage Culture, was the absolute perfect way to end the week-long spectacle. Until next year, Basel, and let the countdown begin…

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
