Zayn cancels the US portion of Stairway To The Sky tour following Liam Payne’s death
Zayn has canceled the U.S. portion of his upcoming tour after news that his fellow One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne, had passed away.
Zayn Malik and Liam Payne have been on the outs for the last few years after their band One Direction parted ways in 2020. They kept the reason for their tense relationship private. However, after news of Liam Payne’s death in Buenos Aires, Argentina, former band members expressed their love for Payne. Zayn Malik hit Instagram to express his remorse and sadness over the passing of his once-dear friend.
Zayn Malik was gearing up to start his US leg of the ‘Stairway to the Sky‘ tour on October 23rd in San Francisco. Upon the shocking news of Payne’s death, Malik made the tough decision to push the start date of the tour to January. Tickets from the original dates will remain honored on the soon-to-be-released new dates.
Zayn wrote on his Instagram story, “Given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week, I’ve made the decision to postpone the US leg of the STAIRWAY TO THE SKY Tour. The dates are being rescheduled for January and I’ll post them as soon as it’s all set in the next few days. Your tickets will remain valid for the new dates. Love you all and thank you for your understanding.”
Ahead of this, Zayn, along with his surviving bandmates, shared sentimental posts of their time and friendship with Payne. Zayn wrote in his tribute Instagram post, “Liam, I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me, I can’t help but think selfishly that there was so many more conversations for us to have in our lives. I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life.”
“Even though we butted heads because of this a few times, I always secretly respected you for it.” He continues by writing, “I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain to you what I’d give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly. I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever, there is no words that justify or explain how I feel right now other than beyond devastated. I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are at peace and you know how loved you are. Love you bro.”
Zayn noted he will release the new dates for his ‘Stairway to the Sky’ tour in the upcoming few weeks.
