Laidback Luke meets with Avicii’s father to learn about his mental health awareness efforts

Laidback Luke has shared an Instagram recap of his poignant meeting with Avicii’s father to reflect on Avicii’s life.

Renowned DJ Laidback Luke recently met with the father of the late superstar Avicii, to discuss The Tim Bergling Foundation’s mental health awareness initiatives. The meeting took place during Luke’s trip to Sweden for a writer’s camp, where he seized the opportunity to connect with Klas Bergling in Stockholm. In an emotional Instagram reel, Luke recounted the experience.

Laidback Luke notes that he had never met Avicii’s father before this encounter. Nonetheless, he adds that they had a great time talking about the foundation’s efforts, including opening studios worldwide for young talent. Moreover, he reflects on “obviously talking a lot about Avicii and [their] history with him.”

Avicii’s father created the Tim Bergling Foundation after his son’s tragic passing in 2019. Since then, it has primarily focused on creating safe spaces for artists and providing resources for mental health support. Overall, the foundation aims to normalize dialogue surrounding the mental impact of life on tour.

Born Lucas Cornelis Cornelis, Luke is a highly celebrated DJ/producer known for his ardent mentorship of emerging talent in the music scene. He has played a crucial role in shaping the careers of numerous artists, including Afrojack, Steve Angello – and importantly Avicii. In fact, Luke helped discover the young Tim Bergling, critiquing countless iterations of his early music. Their relationship was not only one of mentor and mentee but also one of deep friendship, with Luke often guiding Avicii in his early career.

Luke’s caption reads, “I sat with tears in my eyes as we shared memories. It was surreal hearing stories from the person closest to Avicii.” In closing, he adds, “what an incredible moment this was. Avicii, we love you, we still miss you 💔”

Mental health awareness continues to be a crucial topic within the music industry, evidenced by the passing of Erick Morillo and Liam Payne. Clearly, Luke’s meeting with Klas underscores the importance of these open conversations. To learn more about The Tim Bergling Foundation, head over to their website.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10+ years now. I have always had a knack for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree in college. Now a law school graduate, I eventually hope to merge my passions by working in music law. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list festivals to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and Sonus in Croatia. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Mochakk, Kevin de Vries, and Eli Brown.
