Porter Robinson’s website is a video game lover’s dream

The official Porter Robinson website has become anything but ordinary, filled to the brim with video game references and unique mini games.

Porter Robinson never settles for run-of-the-mill when it comes to his art, always pushing the boundaries in his music and live shows and curating deliberate, unique visuals to go with it. For his current album and tour, Porter has continued to expand that ethos into the most unlikely of places: his website. Take a spin on porterrobinson.com, and you’ll be anything but bored.

The website opens on a 3-D rendering of a Pokemon-like map that evokes the eyes and hair of the Porter Robinson sprite that is at the center of the ‘SMILE! 😀’ branding. A click on the colorful ‘PRESS TO BEGIN!’ button takes you down inside the map where the Porter sprite walks around a town full of 2000s video game-style buildings labeled ‘Album,’ ‘Store,’ and ‘Tour.’ These clickable buildings stand in for basic buttons to get information about Porter and buy merchandise.

If you think all this already makes for a really cool website, Porter is just getting started. The top right of the screen houses a button reminiscent of the XBox start button, and clicking on this takes your experience in a whole new direction. A menu of twenty options, each mysteriously labeled just by a number, allows visitors to choose from a whole host of mini games and play the day away in Porter World.

Each game is unique, with some featuring a floating white glove reminiscent of the infamous video game character Master Hand, and others featuring the familiar Porter Robinson sprite. Many of the games are based around a cat – ‘PAT THE KITTY,’ ‘SQUEEZE THE KITTY,’ BOWL THE KITTY,’ and so on – while others are based around helping Porter, for example, ‘FINISH ALBUM.’ Most games are completed by destroying and clearing the surrounding structure to find a button which, when pressed, takes you to the next game.

Explaining the website can only do it so much justice – you have to play it yourself to get the full effect. Porter Robinson fans and video game fans alike will absolutely love it.
