Inside Hayden James’ third studio album filled with house-pop anthems
Australian artist Hayden James has released his new album, ‘We Could Be Love,’ driven by the indelible title track with AR/CO.
Almost two and a half years after the release of 2022’s ‘LIFTED,’ Australian house hitmaker Hayden James has returned with his third studio album, ‘We Could Be Love.’ The new project, released on Australian label Future Classic, stays true to James’ roots that made his name in the mid-2010s, with emotive, ever-catchy hooks moving the album forward atop soft, lighthearted melodies.
James begins and ends the album with the familiar, placing four of the previously-released singles at the start of the album and the fifth at the close. The wispy “Patience” with Karen Harding introduces the essence of the album perfectly at the outset, and “Make It” with Kormak wraps things up with perhaps the most infectious, dancy track of them all. “We Could Be Love,” the titular track with AR/CO, provides a true cornerstone for the project with a youthful, soul-soaked anthem.
If James ventures outside of his comfort zone on ‘We Could Be Love,’ it’s certainly on “The Pleasure,” a techno-esque track that flips both the theme and form of the album on their head. It serves as a startling but welcome interlude between “Medicine” and “Don’t Let Me Go,” both of which lie squarely in James’ house-pop wheelhouse. Lilly Ahlberg’s warm, ethereal vocals make “Shelter” another stand-out, epitomizing the album’s blend of introspection and club-ready beats.
“‘We Could Be Love’ was such a fun album to write with so many incredible feature artists,” said Hayden James. “It feels so special to release an album right now and I want to give fans a whole moment with my music…not just a song or two. This album takes me from the beach to the club and back.”
Hayden James is taking his new album on tour across North America this fall, starting with the east coast in late September in Washington DC and Brooklyn and working his way west to San Francisco and Seattle in November. Tickets to the We Could Be Love Tour are on sale now. Check out the new album below!
