In her new track ‘Medical Mystery,’ K. Flay reveals her experience living with single-sided deafness, a medical condition with no known cause or cure available.
K. Flay has started teasing fans with new music that she has been working on. One track involves the story of her experience going deaf in her right ear, with no understanding of how it happened.
‘Medical Mystery’ is a tune about K. Flay’s experience going to doctors for medical help and being unable to give her an explanation as to what is happening with her body. She begins her song by saying, “Last year I went deaf in one ear suddenly, the doctors said it was a medical mystery. I tried to seance with Angela Lansbury but it’s the kind of murder she can’t solve.”
This verse alludes to the idea that single-sided deafness has no known cause and is a mystery that has no known cure. The song acknowledges her frustration with the enigma of the human body and the unknown. She continues in her song that the human body is like, “the Mariana’s Trench – cryptic and cloaked” also saying they are, “bizarre and quixotic.”
This isn’t the first time where K. Flay discusses her experience with sing-sided deafness in a song. K. Flay ignited the conversation around her medical condition in the song ‘Are You Serious,’ on her latest album, ‘MONO.’
Her lyrics state, “Woke up on a Saturday, deaf in my right year. I was dizzy and disoriented, vertigo severe. All the doctors said the cause was just some mystery unknown. Then they charged me $13,000 and the f**kers sent me home. I was told there was no way to prevent what had occurred. But the randomness of everything, it almost made it worse. Now lately every crowded room feels like I’m drowning in the sound, of incoherent conversations and my heartbeat as it pounds.”
