Ben Hemsley Opens Up About School and Job Failures Before Launching DJ Career
Ben Hemsley has rehashed his failures in school and work before he reached ultimate success as a DJ and producer.
UK newcomer Ben Hemsley has opened up about his school and job failures before launching a DJ career to his fans. He began his post with a picture of himself unemployed, outside of a job center in 2018. After having a poor attendance record which delayed him from attending university, he has shared that eventually, he got into school to study music composition.
He continued to write in his post sharing with fans that he was “skint and jobless” at the time, but “grateful that [he] could write music and product music every day.” Since he has been producing music since he was 14 years old, Hemsley was able to master his sound at university.
The day he left school, his debut single, “Caress Me” was signed by Lee Foss and has been rising in his career ever since. Over the last year, he has been able to tour the UK and America debuting new music, and even had his own residency in Ibiza this past summer.
The 27-year-old has over half a million monthly listeners on Spotify and continues to rise in popularity. His unique sound blends house with trance and is inspired by rave culture, which he himself has indulged in since the age of 16.
His breakout performance was at Creamfields in 2021 and has been supported throughout his career by none other than tech-house music legend Patrick Topping, who has known Hemsley for a number of years. Topping and Hemsley originally met because Topping was in the same friend group as Hemsley’s brother.
“I got introduced to him by a friend who invited us to his birthday party in a bowling alley. I turned up. Patrick introduced himself. He was like, ‘Nice to meet you. Everyone says you make good tunes.’ From then on, Topping has been in Hemsley’s corner, supporting his career, and being his mentor in the industry.
Ben is currently on the final leg of the “Connection Tour” which ends in late December. Most of Hemsley’s remaining shows are sold out, as he has regularly packed thousands into venues across London over the last few months, including selling out his first headline show at Newcastle Lofts Club in just 20 minutes. This was the fastest show to sell out that the venue has ever seen in its history.
As Ben Hemsley continues to rise in the electronic music industry, be sure to follow his journey and stay updated with new music releases including his freshest drop, “IBIZA” released in July.
