GRiZ Opens Up About Therapy and “Being A Workaholic” Ahead of Hiatus
Griz took to Twitter to clarify that he is not retiring, but taking a much-needed hiatus after a Therapy breakthrough.
Griz got personal on his Twitter when he shared a very candid video giving more reasoning behind his upcoming hiatus that he announced in early summer. He mentioned that throughout therapy, he realized that he is a workaholic and is striving towards creating new boundaries for himself and for his health.
Griz realized that his strive for success is deepseeded, which can be a positive thing but can also take a toll on his confidence. “I work in response to feelings of insecurity, and not feeling like I’m good enough or the best or number one in everyone’s hearts and always feeling like I’m in competition with myself to be better which certainly helped me improve my craft but in other ways it kind of manifests itself as something that feels very negative,” Griz says in his video.
Those are feelings that we think anyone can relate to. The need to succeed, the looming cloud of imposter syndrome. It’s sad that such a talented human is faced with the same day-to-day issues that we regular folk are. However, in a sense, it is reassuring to know that even one of the best artists of our time can relate to the struggles many people face when it comes to their careers.
Griz continues on to say that it becomes difficult to manage the way he feels inside and out while also being the “Griz music guy” we all know and love. It has been tough and it has taken a toll on him, which is completely understandable. Having been so central to the music world for over ten years, the inspiring musician should be able to take the time and space for himself. To be able to regenerate and feel happy is a blessing many take for granted, but Griz is constantly giving back to his community and spreading a message of peace and love, and now he needs our support.
Griz is taking the time to focus on the positive changes that he has begun making in his life and to be his most authentic self without being under any sort of spotlight. This open and honest candor is something that is often overlooked in the music industry, hidden behind PR or Social Media managers. It is a breath of fresh air.
Griz’s ability to be candid, real, and vulnerable goes to show what a support system he has from his fans. Comments were rarely negative, but rather supportive offering love and happiness towards the dubstep superstar. For us fans, this is not a goodbye, but a see you later. We are excited about Griz’s journey in self-discovery and beyond grateful for his music over the last decade. Oh, and the 27 festival IDs he dropped two weeks ago. We cannot wait for his return, but only when he feels ready. We love you Griz!
