The Chainsmokers “Struggle To Receive The Same Respect” In The Venture Capital Business
The Chainsmokers struggle to gain respect in the Capital Business World with celebrity status.
Even with worldwide fame and millions of fans, The Chainsmokers struggle to gain respect in the Venture Capital business market. Alex Pall, one-half of The Chainsmokers duo, shares a post on LinkedIn about how they were rejected in an email from a portfolio manager who expressed their disinterest in meeting with their VC firm because it was led by two celebrities.
Pall goes into a list of achievements that Andrew Taggart and himself have accomplished as a team, in the music industry and beyond. Even with their college degrees, a single Grammy win, the launching of a Tequila brand, and a TV/Film production company on top of a diverse real estate portfolio, they still are met with criticism due to their celebrity status.
With their music and brands, Pall states that the duo also, “In the past six years, we’ve invested in nearly 200 pioneering technology brands through Mantis Venture Capital, and spent hours, days, and weeks refining our business acumen, working with mentors, and studying the market. We know what we don’t know, and approach everything with humility and excitement.”
He continues the post by explaining more about the team behind Mantis is “led by 15 strategic and talented team members with diverse backgrounds in business development, management, private equity and beyond.” Even with a team, Pall makes it clear that Taggart and himself take their own pitch calls, answer their own emails, join all the meetings, and engage with investors every day.
Even though they have the status of being famous, Pall expresses how they are missing out on opportunities due to being viewed through a “myopic lens”. Labeling their fund as a “celebrity fund is a huge mischaracterization” he ends the post.
The Chainsmokers have experience in this field, so it comes down to how they are viewed in the eyes of the business world. In the music world though, they have a new collaboration with Illenium featuring Carlie Hanson that comes out this week called “SEE YOU AGAIN”, which is available to pre-save now.
