Two-Day Techno Event Wire Festival Returns to New York’s Knockdown Center with Industry Panel

Wire Festival at the Knockdown Center in NYC returns presented BY BASEMENT Organizers and in partnership with Resident Advisor.

WIRE Festival returns to NYC this weekend at the Knockdown Center with panel discussions for their second annual festival focused on hosting discussions regarding the most serious issues facing the electronic community. This year’s topics will cover the lack of royalties artists see in the community along with the US artist visa.

On Friday, May 19th, WIRE Festival is inviting DVSI to discuss his new platform Aslice. Alslice has been created to distribute royalties to producers based on DJs playing their songs in sets. Digital music has worked to erode the royalty industry with many artists taking a hit to their bank accounts. This has caused there to be an economic crisis impacting recording artists causing them to command high fees from venues and festivals to make up for the lack of income.

WIRE Festival Panels announced at Knockdown Center

On Saturday, May 20th you will see the venue’s director and WIRE Festival co-director, Tyler Myers lead a panel on the US Artist Visa. The US has created vast restrictions on foreign artists entering the country, unlike the looser restrictions our overseas counterparts face making it harder for there to be a global music community. This has created a problem in the US music scene as there have been opportunities for talent and management alike squashed because of the soaring cost of the artist visa, many can’t afford to expand their career into the States.

The panel discussions begin at 8 PM each evening at the Knockdown Center in Ridgewood, Queens. Presented by BASEMENT and its organizers, Téa Abashidze, GeGa Japaridze, and Tyler Myers. Wire Festival places the spotlight on the rich techno scene in the US and overseas, hosting techno legends and local new talent to the scene. This year’s lineup includes Jeff Mills, DVS1, Luke Slater, and Marcel Dettmann with a second space in the venue featuring Berlin’s Herrensauna and Copenhagen’s Fast Forward Productions, highlighting two of the most popular queer collectives in techno today.

Hey! I'm Shiv! Music is the greatest part of my life, I remember discovering dubstep when I was 15/16 and my entire life was altered - robot noises?? I needed MORE! Now, I live in NYC and have seen over 60 artists of all genres; my favorites being Odesza, Subtronics, Rezz, Griz, Zeds Dead, John Summit and Kaskade. I am an enjoyer of music and will try everything once, I do not discriminate - there is beauty in all genres (minus country). You can usually find me in a warehouse at 4AM because I am nocturnal and will quite literally never say no to a show.

What's your reaction?
