John Summit Faces Backlash for Controversial Comments About Partying in the EDM Scene
After sharing some thoughts on partying as an EDM artist, John Summit encounters repercussions from the social media community.
John Summit experienced some resistance from fans following a post discussing his viewpoint on indulgence and Djing within the EDM realm. The Chicago-based DJ is no stranger to living unrestrained. Including late nights, partying, and setting the vibe. This isn’t the first time Summit has stirred controversy around this subject. In August Hex Cougar subtweeted him regarding an “unhealthy lifestyle.”
Subsequently, in June 2022 his wallet got stolen in Ibiza after a bender went wrong. Now most recently he started the new year with a tweet on January 8th, that didn’t sit right with fans. “a DJ who doesn’t party is like a yoga instructor who wears polo and khakis. I don’t trust em,” read his tweet. Summit has always been an advocate for living his life freely and immersing himself in the experience.
Prior to becoming a sought-after DJ, Summit was an accountant. He had no money and pivoted careers, making his dream come true. Throughout the decades the music industry has been synonymous with partying and yielding to exploration. Yet modern-day woke culture has tapped into the toxicity that lies beneath. When one doesn’t construct healthy relationships with addictive tendencies it can be harmful.
“nahhh, some people decide to quit partying for a ton of reasons and continue their careers full of passion. we don’t need to shame anyone in the music industry for trying to be sober or take care of themselves. it’s hard enough as it is to work in music sober, don’t need shame…,” replied one person. This ignited a slew of responses from Summit himself along with fans coming to his defense.
John replied, “this has nothing to do with drugs ???,” a statement yet a question, overall how does one define partying? In the sense of the word, most individuals see it as drinking or partaking in drugs. Which can lead to sexual expression and over-the-top behavior at most. “Grown *ss adults can do what they please if john summit wants to party then what’s the issue,” one fan defending him.
“Some of the best DJs are stone-cold nerds that only come out of their bedrooms to rock the show. I’ll trust them,” another commenter noted. There are two sides to the subject at hand, partying. There are quite a few EDM artists that have chosen sobriety, Ghastly, Kaivon, and AFK to name a few. Moreover, it all depends on where someone is in their life journey. Lastly, be smart, make wise decisions, and know your limits.
