Steve Aoki Will Join SpaceX For Flight Mission To The Moon
In 2023, Steve Aoki will participate in the first civilian lunar orbital mission, thanks to Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa and SpaceX.
As if being a DJ/producer, label owner, and entrepreneur weren’t enough – Steve Aoki will soon add space-voyager to his list. Steve Aoki is one of eight hand-picked artists embarking on next year’s maiden voyage, along with two SpaceX crew members. Japanese magnate and intergalactic aficionado Yusaka Maezawa agreed to fund the mission, powered by SpaceX through the “dearMoon Project.”
Although this will be the first commercial flight ever around the moon, Maezawa himself is no stranger to outerspace. Next year’s expedition will nonetheless be unique, as the crew will use one of SpaceX’s reusable launch vehicles. Furthermore, Aoki admits that flying to the moon is a childhood dream of his – making this trip even more special.
Particularly notable among the lucky few accompanying Steve Aoki is K-Pop star Choi Seung-hyun, or T.O.P. Joining them are filmmaker Brendan Hall, YouTuber Tim Dodd, photographer Karim Iliya, actor Dev Joshi, artist Yemi AD and photographer Rhiannon Adam. Aoki is undoubtedly “very excited and grateful for this amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
As shocking as the decision may appear, Steve Aoki has undoubtedly been and continues to be a pioneer throughout pop culture. Any EDM fan in their 20-30s can probably recall his ostentatious performances. From throwing cakes into the crowd to champagne showers, to crowd-surfing in plastic rafts, Aoki’s presence certainly continues to be unforgettable.
Aoki has further demonstrated his artistic range by teaming up with emo legends Taking Back Sunday. In fact, the EDM legend recently released his remix of their 2002 hit “Cute Without The E” on his 27-track remix album. Also featured on the album are major names such as Timmy Trumpet, Slushii, Bassjackers, Mod Sun and Lil Xan.
Steve Aoki doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon, and we’re totally here for it. For more information on his tour schedule, click here. To the Moon!
