EDC Week 2018 Recap
Hundreds of thousands of people descend to Las Vegas, Nevada every year for Insomniac Events’ flagship festival Electric Daisy Carnival. The city of Vegas kicks off the festival with a week long of pre-party events such as pool parties and DJ’s guest appearing at night clubs. This week as known as “EDC Week” and it has its own line up separate from the actual festival. Some of the most elite nightclubs in Las Vegas host EDC week events such as Marquee, Omnia, Hakkasan, and Jewel. There are multiple pool parties during the day as well as multiple performances at various nightclubs in the evening. Exron Music had the pleasure of attending some of these events during the week.
On Wednesday May 16, Elephante kicked off EDC Week with a bang at Liquid Pool in the Aria hotel. It was the perfect set to set the mood for the week and the beautiful sunny day in Vegas. With a combination of progressive house and some heavier bass drops, Elephante kept the crowd jumping (and splashing) for the full hour he played. The same day as the pool party Elephante released six tracks off his upcoming EP “Glass Mansion”. Our favorite track he released is “Have It All” featuring Nevve. Check out the new track below and keep an eye out for the full EP coming June 15! Elephante’s performance and energy at Liquid Pool makes us excited to see him continue to grow and release new music in the future.
Exron Music kicked off the second day of EDC Week with Nghtmre also at the Liquid Pool Lounge. Nghtmre was prepared to make everyone at that pool remember his set. With a lot of heavy hitting bass drops and some of his original tracks, the crowd was mesmerized by his talent for the whole set. This set was just a warm up for one of the biggest set’s of his career, headlining mainstage at EDC Las Vegas later in the weekend.
Although the EDC Week parties continue into the weekend, Exron Music turned our attention to the festival for the rest of the week. This was Insomniac’s 22nd installment of Electric Daisy Carnival. Each and every year Pasquale Rotella, owner of Insomniac Events, sets it upon himself to make sure that each EDC (and Insomniac festival for that matter) exceeds the expectations of the headliners and outshines the previous year.
EDC 2018 proved to have bigger and better production, surprise guest appearances, and a plethora of b2b sets between artists. This year the festival had eight stages and multiple moving “art cars” that DJ’s perform on. Something special about EDC is that even though the actual stage may change, the name of that stage will remain the same each year. Kinetic Field is the infamous main stage at EDC. The structure design usually changes completely from the previous year. Cosmic Meadow has had the stage design for the past couple of years, but remains as beautiful as ever. Producers like Illenium, Ekali, and Tchami x Malaa performed at Cosmic Meadow this year. Circuit Grounds saw acts like Rezz and Porter Robinson’s Virtual Self.
Some notable sets and experiences from EDC Las Vegas 2018:
-first year of festival camping and “Camp EDC”
-Tchami x Malaa’s No Redemption
-Slander & Nghtmre’s Gud Vibrations
-Tiesto’s 12 minute tribute to Avicii
