Okeechobee organizers announce 2027 festival hiatus

Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival has announced it won’t return in 2027, marking its third hiatus in less than a decade.

Okeechobee Music Festival is one of many festivals that have had trouble over the years. From management issues to Mother Nature, there are many things that contribute to festivals taking time off.

Last year’s 2026 edition received tremendous amounts of positive feedback, and fans were excited about the complete return to independent management through the original festival creators, Soundslinger. This 2026 return came after the festival took two years off. Okeechobee also paused operations in 2021 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Before that, in 2019, a hiatus originally drew in Insomniac, taking the festival away from independent management and into a corporatized landscape.

This current hiatus announcement is heartbreaking for the Soundslinger team as well as loyal attendees. The festival industry, like most of the world, is going through tremendous change.  From rising costs and financial hardships reflected in America’s suffering economy, to natural disasters, changing climates, and Mother Nature’s unforgiving wrath, it’s no surprise that music festivals are involved in this time of anguish.

Hope is not all lost, though. Okeechobee joins several other festivals and acts taking a hiatus next year. Bonnaroo even announced a hiatus for 2027 in hopes of restoring the farm, which really needs time to recover from the previous flood and storm damages. Okeechobee and Soundslinger’s message to fans isn’t one of doom and gloom, but of prosperity and a sense of awe as to what’s to come.

Okeechobee’s Instagram statement makes it clear this isn’t goodbye forever, but simply a break. This time off will be spent reimagining and reworking all that Sunshine Grove has to offer. The team is clear about making a comeback, guaranteeing the same venue location, multi-genre lineups, and “every touch of magic that makes the festival its own special world.” The portal will always open again.
