Madonna and Charli XCX release debut collaboration ‘Danceteria Afterhours’

Madonna and Charli XCX finally join forces on the long-rumored ‘Danceteria Afterhours,’ connecting two generations of pop stars with deep ties to dance and electronic music.

Madonna and Charli XCX have officially released their first collaboration, ‘Danceteria Afterhours.’ The track is a rework of ‘Danceteria,’ originally released on Madonna’s latest album, “Confessions II.” Produced by Madonna alongside Andrew Watt, Cirkut and her longtime artistic collaborator Stuart Price, the rework adds Charli to an already stacked list of collaborators “Confessions II”  found across the album. Collaborators include pop and electronic artists such as Martin Garrix, Sabrina Carpenter, Arca and Parisi.

Madonna’s ties to dance music go back even further, and maybe provide the red string theory that would eventually lead her to Charli. She worked with late producer SOPHIE and Diplo on “Bitch I’m Madonna” from her 2015 album ‘Rebel Heart,’ with Diplo co-producing the track and connecting Madonna with two major forces in electronic music. Here is where the red string gets interesting. SOPHIE is also closely tied to Charli’s sound through their work on the ‘Vroom Vroom’ EP.

‘Danceteria Afterhours’ brings Charli into Madonna’s latest era and Madonna into Charli XCX’s, who has become a global phenomenon after her breakout Brat summer. This track marks their first official collaboration, bringing together two artists with long histories of working with some of electronic music’s biggest names. Charli’s relationship with the electronic world runs especially deep. During the Brat era, she teamed up with The Dare on “Guess,” another standout from the cultural phenomenon that turned an entire summer unapologetically bratty.

Years before Madonna and Charli became linked in the studio, their work with SOPHIE had already connected their careers. In hindsight, the overlap feels like early foreshadowing of their long-rumored, long-awaited collaboration. Madonna has kept up the dance collaborations in recent years, joining The Weeknd and Playboi Carti on “Popular” in 2023, working with BLOND:ISH on “Sorry” and having house music icon Honey Dijon as direct support on her Celebration Tour.

More recently, Madonna made a surprise appearance during Sabrina Carpenter’s 2026 Coachella headline set. The two shared the stage for a ‘Vogue’ moment before Madonna marked 20 years since her own first Coachella performance. Now, two artists whose careers have repeatedly crossed paths with the dance world have finally crossed paths with each other. Madonna and Charli XCX’s ‘Danceteria Afterhours’ is available to listen to now.
