Carl Cox B2B Dennis Cruz at [UNVRS] Ibiza: Oh yes, oh yes!

With his 2026 Sunday residency closing October 4th, Exron went to San Rafael, Ibiza, to catch Carl Cox’s joyous B2B with Dennis Cruz.

There are DJs who play Ibiza here and there, and then there’s the legendary Carl Cox. On Sunday, September 20th, with single-digit dates left in his 2026 season, Exron came through the industry door beneath the dome at [UNVRS] in San Rafael to watch the man long known as the King of Ibiza go B2B with Spanish tech house heavyweight Dennis Cruz. On paper it was a strong pairing, but in the room it felt like a joyous masterclass.

This is Cox’s second summer of Sundays at [UNVRS], The Night League’s 20,000-capacity superclub that opened its doors in 2025. His arrival last year ended a long stretch without a regular home on the island. Cox framed it as more than a comeback, calling it “a reunion with the island that shaped so much of my journey.” The 2026 run spans 16 Sundays, from June 21st to October 4th, with marathon all-night sets bookending the season and a handful of surprises in between. Cox’s own tagline for the summer was simple: “expect the unexpected, always.”

It is hard to overstate how much of Ibiza’s clubbing story runs through Mr. Cox. His residency at Space began in 2001 with just six nights. Season after season, it grew into one of the most successful and celebrated runs the island has ever seen. In fact, it lasted fifteen consecutive summers and ended only when the legendary Space itself closed in 2016. Unsurprisingly, every night of that final season sold out. Long before that, at the Sunrise rave in 1988, he made his name by hooking up a third turntable during a sunrise set. Cox brought 15,000 people back to their feet, earning the nickname that still follows him: the Three Deck Wizard. Nearly four decades later, the instinct that made that moment possible is fully intact and thriving in Ibiza.

Cruz made for a fitting partner. Born Denis de Galdo Troyano in Madrid, he started DJing at 17, trained as a sound engineer, and built a following through funk, dub, and Latin rhythm. He runs the MÜSE and Lemon-Aid labels and is one half of GOLFOS alongside PAWSA, who himself joined Cox’s [UNVRS] lineups last summer. Where Cox is a techno lifer with an open door to every shade of house, Cruz brings groove and swing. Undoubtedly, the overlap between the two is exactly where their B2B sparked.

What stood out most was how generous the set felt. Under a booth washed in red light, Cox played like a host rather than a headliner, giving Cruz room to steer and then building on whatever he threw down. The handoffs read less like a contest than a conversation between trusting colleagues, and the dancefloor reacted accordingly. Through all of it, Cox was visibly having the time of his life, as usual. Dancing behind the decks, grinning at the crowd, and chanting, “Oh yes, oh yes!”. After more than forty years behind the decks, that joy still drives everything he does. Mr. Cox’s purpose is to spread the bliss of club culture, techno, and house, and he does it with a divine, magnetic exuberance.

Norman Cook, better known as Fatboy Slim, once described Cox as “the complete DJ, also the DJ’s DJ.” He added that “records come to life when he plays them, rooms come to life when he rocks them.” David Guetta put it more bluntly, saying Cox “wrote the script of what it means to be a DJ.” Standing in that room, neither line felt like an exaggeration. The production at [UNVRS] is spectacular, but it never upstaged the man in the booth. If anything, it simply gave him a bigger canvas.

There is one Sunday left, the season’s last opportunity to witness a Balearic legend at play. Cox closes his 2026 [UNVRS] residency on October 4th with an all-night set, and if you can make it, this is THE place to be. Ibiza has changed enormously since he first played, and so has dance music. Nonetheless, September 20th made one thing clear: Carl Cox is still setting the standard. As he once put it, “there’s still a lot more water in the well.”
