Darude releases first official remix for viral sensation ‘Sandstorm’ after two decades
Darude creates a new version of his iconic hit “Sandstorm” with a Storm 25 Mix that comes with a harder drop for any mainstage.
Darude has done what countless producers, DJs, gamers, sports arenas, and internet trolls have been waiting for. He reworked his iconic hit “Sandstorm.” More than two decades after the Finnish classic has become one of EDM’s most played tracks, Darude has released “Sandstorm (Storm 25 Mix),” marking the first official remix of the anthem in over 20 years. With this release, the world has finally received permission to mess with the meme again.
“Sandstorm” has been much more than a dance track. The notable dance track has earned more than one billion global streams, earned multiple Gold and Platinum certifications, and its music video has surpassed 322 million YouTube views to this day. Beyond clubs and festivals, the track made its way into sports events, college bars, and gaming titles including EA Sports, Fortnite, and DOTA. Especially, it became an internet meme for anyone who asks, “What song is this?”

Despite its massive cultural footprint, “Sandstorm” has remained surprisingly difficult to remix officially. Many unofficial edits, bootlegs, and mashups have attempted to give the legendary melody a new home, but Darude has now taken matters into his own hands. The producer approached the remix by preserving the elements that have made the track instantly recognizable while giving its production a serious 2026 upgrade. Too bad for those that has been waiting for that ID to come out after hearing it at EDC.
The “Storm 25 Mix” grew from a reworked version that Darude has created for his STORM 25 worldwide anniversary tour, celebrating 25 years of his music career. He has rebuilt the original track from the ground up, recreating its sounds before reshaping them into a bigger, harder production. The familiar lead melody has remained front and center, while including what we hear now with melodic techno influences, big-room energy, and orchestral textures.
Darude has also admitted that remixing his own classic felt like a risky mission. After years of hearing other producers attempt their own versions, he has decided that the 25th anniversary has presented the perfect opportunity to see how far “Sandstorm” can go. The result has essentially asked one very important question: how much harder can a track that has already caused millions of people to yell “DUU DUU DUU DUU DUU” actually hit?
Now available through Vibing Out, the “Sandstorm Storm 25 Mix” has officially given one of dance music’s most enduring anthems a new lease on life. After more than 20 years without an official remix, Darude has returned to the track that has defined his career and has proven that “Sandstorm” still has plenty of fuel left in the tank. The meme has evolved, the production has leveled up, and somehow, the storm has only gotten louder.
