John Summit announces 2027 US festival hiatus to focus on music

After years of nonstop touring and major festival appearances, John Summit plans to pull back from the EDM circuit in 2027 and refocus on making club records.

John Summit is ready to trade global festival stages for some much-needed studio time. The Chicago-born producer announced that he plans to step away from EDM festivals and shows in 2027, shifting his attention back toward making club-focused music. He wants to dig deeper into his sound that has been constantly evolving since the start.

“I love working on these big events & arena tour, but it’s gonna be real fun to not play any EDM festivals/shows next year so I can focus on making club records and digging deeper again,” Summit shared on the social media site X this past September 16. The decision follows an especially busy stretch for Summit, whose rise over the past several years has taken him from intimate and novice club sets to some of the biggest stages in electronic music.

His 2026 schedule alone has included appearances at Ultra Music Festival, EDC Las Vegas, Tomorrowland and Lollapalooza, alongside his Experts Only Ibiza residency and CTRL ESCAPE Arena Tour. In addition, he has started his own festival series, Experts Only, hosted in New York City in mid-September at the former Electric Zoo grounds on Randall’s Island.

The announcement also isn’t entirely unexpected. Earlier this year, Summit revealed plans to scale back his touring schedule once the arena run wraps, saying he wanted more time away from the road. In August, he also canceled several festival appearances to rest and prepare for the tour. While Summit’s comments point toward a major reduction in festival appearances, they don’t necessarily mean he’s disappearing completely. The break hopefully gives Summit room to return to the club-driven production that helped launch his career in the first place.
