Creamfields 2026 faces set cancellations amid severe weather

Torrential downpours forced Creamfields to cut power and cancel sets, leaving thousands sheltering as the UK festival’s opening night went sideways.

Creamfields was thrown into chaos after severe thunderstorms and lightning swept across Ireland and the UK, forcing organizers to cut power and bring performances to an abrupt halt. The weather turned the opening night into an unexpected battle between thousands of ravers and Mother Nature, apparently leading to raving in the rain.

As the storm made its way to the festival grounds in Daresbury, Creamfields organizers shut down power across the event’s arenas and stages as a precaution Thursday night. The decision interrupted live performances and even brought the festival’s silent disco to a premature end. With lightning lighting up the skies, attendees were instructed to seek shelter while organizers have prioritized keeping crowds away from dangerous conditions.

Several artists have consequently seen their sets cut short, with Vikkstar among the performers affected. His debut at the festival was interrupted just as the atmosphere was building, leaving fans with considerably less music than they paid for. For an electronic music festival, having every speaker suddenly go silent has arguably been the least popular drop of the night, but the grunt at the end.

The disruption also created a surreal scene for the next three days across the festival grounds. The sold-out crowd had no choice but to tighten their wellie boots and stomp across the mud from one stage to the next. Videos and social media posts captured the dramatic weather moving across the site, while attendees shared reactions to recap what happened.

This wasn’t the only mishap that took place all across the United Kingdom for what was suppose to be a Bank Holiday weekend of relaxing, getaways, and festival fun. Down at Reading and Leeds festival, Silva Bumpa and Omar+ had their expected sets cancelled out of thin air due to overcrowding at the tent stage they were to perform. As the two artists becape popular in their origin country, organizers saw the safety hazard building up and had no choice but to close the stage altogether.

Throughout the weekend, Creamfields still delivered alot of mesmerization for this year’s edition. While its opening night produced a headline nobody wanted, the weather has stolen the show. Over time, artists in the United Kingdom have picked up a significant growth in their audience with the groovy house music they produce and building the crowd live to jump around, rain or shine.
