Porter Robinson announces 10-year edition vinyl of ‘Shelter’ with Madeon

Porter Robinson and Madeon celebrate a decade of ‘Shelter’ with anniversary vinyl.

Porter Robinson and Madeon are celebrating a decade of their beloved collaboration “Shelter” with a limited-edition 10th-anniversary vinyl. The release arrived on August 11, exactly 10 years after the track’s original release in 2016. Fans were quick to grab the commemorative vinyl, which has already sold out.

The $16.99 7-inch vinyl features a new colorway, with each disc made from a unique blend of opaque green and translucent blue, making no two exactly alike. “Shelter” appears on Side A, while Side B features “Beings (Shelter Live Version),” a live version of Madeon’s “Adventure” track that connects the release back to the pair’s Shelter Live era.

The anniversary marks an important moment in both artists’ careers, but Robinson and Madeon’s story began long before “Shelter.” The two first met online as young producers on a music production forum when Robinson was 14 and Madeon, born Hugo Leclercq, was 12. Living across the world from one another in the United States and France, the two started as friendly rivals, competing while also supporting each other as they developed their production skills.

Both eventually found success independently. Robinson broke into the early-2010s EDM scene before moving away from its traditional mainstage form and releasing his debut album, Worlds, in 2014. Madeon followed with his own debut album, ‘Adventure’, in 2015. As their sounds began evolving in new directions, the longtime friends saw an opportunity to bring their creative worlds together. That opportunity became “Shelter”.

Following the song’s release, Robinson and Madeon took the collaboration on the road with the Shelter Live Tour, creating a joint performance that blended music from both of their catalogs. The tour eventually concluded at Coachella in 2017, allowing the two artists to continue pursuing their individual creative directions.

Ten years later, “Shelter” remains a defining release for both artists. The quick sellout of its anniversary pressing shows the lasting connection fans still have to a collaboration born from a friendship that began years before either artist had a career in electronic music.
