Berlin club DJ Nico Stojan has passed away

After shaping Berlin’s techno dancefloors for more than 30 years, Nico Stojan leaves behind a legacy in the city’s nightlife.

Berlin’s dance community has mourned the loss of longtime DJ, producer, and cultural figure Nico Stojan, whose death has been announced by his family. The beloved artist had spent more than three decades contributing to the city’s evolving nightlife landscape, building a legacy that has extended far beyond his performances. While the cause of death has not been disclosed, tributes have already reflected the deep impact he has made on friends, collaborators, and listeners around the world.

Stojan’s family has remembered him as a warm, compassionate, and deeply thoughtful person who had a rare ability to make others feel welcomed and understood. Rather than commanding attention through volume or ego, he had become known for his kindness, honesty, humor, and loyalty to the people closest to him. His musical journey had begun during the 1990s, when he first developed his craft as a hip-hop DJ. Over time, his artistic direction had evolved alongside Berlin’s nightlife scene, eventually leading him to a defining residency at the legendary Bar 25 during the 2000s. His sets had blended deep house and downtempo rhythms with touches of jazz, funk, and other eclectic influences, proving that genre boundaries have always been more like polite suggestions.

Through his work at Bar 25, Stojan had helped shape an atmosphere centered on creativity, openness, and musical discovery. His selections had become an important part of the venue’s identity, while his approach to DJing had connected audiences through emotion and unexpected sounds. He had remained an active and respected presence as Berlin’s club culture continued to change around him.

In 2016, Stojan had co-founded the Ouïe record label with longtime collaborator Acid Pauli. The imprint had provided a platform for their own music while supporting artists including David Mayer, Jonathan Kaspar, and Chambord. Throughout his career, Stojan had also released work through respected labels such as Get Physical, Upon.You, and Highgrade, further expanding his influence across electronic music.

A fundraising campaign has since been launched to assist Stojan’s family with funeral and memorial expenses, legal matters, and the preservation of his creative legacy. The campaign has raised nearly $32,000 toward its $40,000 goal at the time of reporting. As Berlin’s nightlife community has remembered one of its enduring voices, Stojan’s music and generosity have continued to speak louder.
