Avicii fans question GoFundMe for his dog Liam amid cancer treatment

A GoFundMe campaign launched to help cover cancer treatment for Avicii’s beloved dog, Liam, has sparked an emotional response across the EDM community.

The fundraiser was created by Sean Eriksson, a longtime friend of the late Tim Bergling, better known as Avicii. Eriksson posted online that he and Bergling adopted Liam from a shelter together and described him as one of the most meaningful parts of the producer’s life.

“Tim once told me that Liam was his first time experiencing unconditional love,” Eriksson wrote on the campaign page. “I’ve seen the power of emotional support through dogs with Liam and how he could help Tim through anxiety when no one else could.”

Since Avicii’s tragic passing in 2018, Liam has remained in the care of trainer Filippo Moretti. According to Eriksson, Liam is currently undergoing cancer treatment, which is “going well,” but the cost of ongoing veterinary care has placed a significant financial burden on Moretti.

The campaign states that donations will go toward Liam’s treatment and care first. If funds remain, Eriksson hopes to make it possible for Moretti and Liam to meet fans who have followed the rescue dog’s journey over the past decade.

While many support the fundraiser, which has currently raised about $45,000, it has also generated intense debate online. In the comments of posts sharing the campaign, some fans questioned why crowdfunding was needed, pointing to reports that Avicii’s estate was inherited by his parents after his death because he did not leave a will.

“You’re telling me none of his money got left for the dog?” one commenter wrote, while another asked whether Avicii’s estate or foundation could help cover Liam’s medical expenses.

Recently, the legal battle between Avicii’s former manager Arash “Ash” Pournouri and companies controlled by the Bergling family has also come to light, first after a Swedish court dismissed the lawsuit and later after an appeals court reinstated the case for further review.

Despite the discussion surrounding the fundraiser and Avicii’s estate, many fans have continued to share messages of support for Liam, whose story remains closely tied to Avicii’s legacy through memories like *The Crowning of Prince Liam* road trip, during which hit song “Without You” was created.

Hi, I’m Lily! I’m an LA-based concert & festival diehard! My life was forever changed after my first festival, Coachella 2019, and then fully spiraled (in the best way) after my first EDC in 2023. I have attended over 140+ shows... I am the ultimate stage hopper and will always make it to the barricade. I love dubstep, house, trance, techno, bass, you name it. If I’m not at a show, I’m working as a social media manager & photographer, or probably listening to music, learning how to DJ, planning my next festival, or watching a Gordon Ramsay cooking show with my cat. I am so excited to be writing for Exron and sharing my love for music. If you're reading this, thanks for being here and reading my stuff!
