Oliver Tree’s celebration of life to be held in Santa Cruz and livestreamed
Today’s celebration of life for Oliver Tree feels like a final love letter to a singular voice that left a mark far beyond Santa Cruz.
Oliver Tree’s hometown is preparing a fitting goodbye following the vocalist’s fatal crash. A celebration of life will take place tonight at the UC Santa Cruz Quarry Amphitheater, with a livestream for fans who cannot attend in person. The service will begin at 7:30 p.m. PST and include live music, tribute videos, and remarks from loved ones.
The event is limited in size, with tickets reserved mainly for family and close friends. Fellow DJ and longtime friend Whethan even canceled his performances to honor Oliver Tree at his memorial. While a select number of tickets are on sale to the public, the livestream opens the memorial to a wider audience.
Oliver Tree broke through with a sharp mix of alt-pop, rap, and internet-era comedy, then turned himself into a full visual identity. His videos, stage persona, and genre-blurring releases made him one of the more unmistakable artists to emerge from Santa Cruz.
Undoubtedly, Santa Cruz makes the memorial feel especially personal. Tree, whose full name is Oliver Tree Nickell, had deep roots in the city. The Quarry Amphitheater offers a fitting location for the public farewell. Reports also say the program will run for about three hours, leaving room for performances, memories, and archival footage.

The memorial is expected to bring together an unusually broad mix of voices. Coverage includes Diplo, Logan Paul, Ethan Klein, Aaron Mercury, and others among the speakers and tribute participants. The lineup certainly fits Tree’s oddball public persona, which often blended internet humor, music, and visual theater. Proceeds from the event will benefit Tree’s charitable foundation, Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Art Grant for Baby Geniuses. Organizers have also encouraged supporters to honor him through the foundation instead of flowers.
Oliver Tree built a career around both spectacle and authenticity, and this celebration appears to balance that energy perfectly. The cartoon-heavy flyer, the live stream, and the mix of friends, family, and collaborators all point to an unapologetically “him” send-off.
