Dash Berlin plots return eight years after vicious legal battle

Jeffrey Sutorius has returned to the iconic trance alias following a years-long legal battle, and he is kicking things off with brand-new music.

Jeffery Sutorius first hinted at a comeback on May 4, when the Dash Berlin Instagram account reignited and posted a simple black square. “The meaning of life is to move on,” the caption read, followed by, “JEFF = back, more info soon.” The post also included hashtags like #jeffisdash and #dashberlin, causing the comment section to instantly blow up.

Dash Berlin’s new single, “Lonely Man,” featuring British singer-songwriter Simon Ward, dropPED July 17 via Reliant Music. It marks the project’s first new original release in five years and the first track of Sutorius’ renewed run under the Dash Berlin name.

“The loss of the brand name for 5+ years definitely has left scars and there are still unresolved issues that need to be clarified,” Sutorius told EDM.com. “But for now it’s a happy and positive approach towards a fresh future perspective for Dash Berlin. I am super thankful for everyone’s patience and support. It’s been a hell of a ride.”

The emotional, melodic record reflects his journey through the last five years, from rebuilding his career to finding a fresh creative direction. This is also the first collaboration between Dash Berlin and Ward, who has worked with Armin van Buuren previously.

Sutorius also officially launched the comeback at Ultra Europe, returning to the festival’s Main Stage on July 11. The set was a full-circle moment for an artist whose history with Ultra stretches back to Dash Berlin’s early rise.

The return follows a bitter split between Sutorius and Dash Berlin producers Eelke Kalberg and Sebastiaan Molijn in 2018. According to EDM.com, the dispute left Sutorius unable to perform under the name indefinitely. He announced in 2021 that he had lost the rights to Dash Berlin, forcing him to tour under his own name while the project continued with another frontman.

Eight years later, Jeff is finally welcomed back as Dash Berlin with open and enthusiastic arms by the trance community. Stay up to date on upcoming releases and more by heading to the official Dash Berlin website.

Hi, I’m Lily! I’m an LA-based concert & festival diehard! My life was forever changed after my first festival, Coachella 2019, and then fully spiraled (in the best way) after my first EDC in 2023. I have attended over 140+ shows... I am the ultimate stage hopper and will always make it to the barricade. I love dubstep, house, trance, techno, bass, you name it. If I’m not at a show, I’m working as a social media manager & photographer, or probably listening to music, learning how to DJ, planning my next festival, or watching a Gordon Ramsay cooking show with my cat. I am so excited to be writing for Exron and sharing my love for music. If you're reading this, thanks for being here and reading my stuff!
