OKAYVAL drops name and announces rebrand in move toward authenticity
The end of OKAYVAL: Valentina Soto teases a new era.
Fans have known the tech-house artist as OKAYVAL until she wiped her Instagram and posted a cryptic graphic that read, “Hey guys, I’ve spent so much of my life trying to fit into places I was never meant to belong. So I’m done pretending to be cool. See you on the other side.” The post was captioned, “The end of OKAYVAL. The beginning of Valentina Soto.” Valentina Soto is the artist’s birth name.
The announcement immediately caught fans’ attention and sparked speculation about what comes next. Soto’s career has always been one of evolution. She began producing music around 2013 under the alias Hiedra Music while still in high school before stepping away to attend college and pursue a traditional 9-to-5 career. In 2022, feeling unfulfilled by the conventional path, she returned to music under the name OKAYVAL.
As OKAYVAL, she became known for her darker tech-house sound and vocal-driven club records. She has cited artists including Dom Dolla, Martin Garrix, and FISHER as inspirations while carving out her own lane within the genre. Over the past few years, she reached several major career milestones, including winning an Insomniac Discovery Project slot at Project GLOW, earning viral success with “Techno Sh,” charting on Beatport, and landing a coveted Tomorrowland booking.

Those accomplishments make this rebrand all the more intriguing. Fans quickly filled the comments with excitement and curiosity, writing, “It’s VALENTINA NOW,” “I’ve got my popcorn ready 🕺🏼,” and “So excited for what’s to come, proud of you 🔥🔥🔥.”
Since announcing the end of OKAYVAL, Soto has shared two additional cryptic posts that hint at a deeper creative shift. In one, she wrote, “This is where the story begins. Things haven’t felt right for a while. For anyone who’s never felt cool… you’re not alone.” In another, she reflected on the pressure of comparison, “It’s funny how one scroll can make you feel like you’re the only person not making progress… Turns out, I wasn’t missing anything. I was just letting doubt talk too loud.”
Sometimes the biggest transformation in an artist’s career isn’t a new sound; it’s deciding to stop performing a version of themselves. While Soto hasn’t revealed exactly what this new chapter will look like, her recent posts suggest a desire to embrace a more authentic identity and create on her own terms. Now, the electronic music community is waiting to see not only the next version of Valentina Soto, but whether that renewed sense of authenticity will shape the music that follows.
