ZHU drops two surprise singles in deluxe version of latest album

ZHU reignites BLACK MIDAS with deluxe reissue and surprise singles.

ZHU isn’t done with BLACK MIDAS just yet. Out on July 10, via Broke/BLACKLIZT Sound Syndicate, the GRAMMY-nominated producer expands his acclaimed spring release into a deluxe edition, BLACK MIDAS DLXZZZ. Alongside the original tracklist, the reissue folds in two previously released singles, “3 AM IN ??????” and “SMOKE UP IN THE AIR,” plus two brand-new cuts: “SUNDOWN” and the focus track “THE CALLING,” which arrives with a striking video shot in wintry Alaska.

The deluxe caps off one of the more remarkable comeback stories in dance music. ZHU (Steven Zhu) built BLACK MIDAS in motion, producing the record from a Mercedes Sprinter van as he crossed the country in 2025 after the Palisades wildfire tore through his Southern California neighborhood. His land burned and his home was left uninhabitable from smoke damage; with no studio to return to, he spent the next year rebuilding his life and his music on the road, linking up with artists he found online along the way. The result was both an album and a warehouse nightlife concept, BLACKLIZT, a full-circle return to his dance-club roots.

Sonically, BLACK MIDAS spans deep house to melodic techno, threaded with late-night narratives and collaborations with a wave of underground and emerging talent, including Joyia on “BURN,” South Africa’s GCBestBelieve and HNTR on “LEVELZZZ,” Mahmut Orhan, and a nod to R&B duo THEY. on “5STARRR.” It’s techno as an attitude, sultry, cinematic, and a little sinister.

More than a DJ, ZHU is a singer, instrumentalist, and showman, and BLACK MIDAS has powered an ambitious live run. This spring he returned to Ultra Music Festival for the first time since 2017, performing in the round surrounded by mannequins with the stage set ablaze. From here, ZHU takes the album across the UK, Europe, and North America, with stops at Tomorrowland, London, Ibiza, New York, Austin, and beyond, plus a run of ON THE MOVE appearances rolling into fall.
