Franky Rizardo cancels ‘Missing’ remix release after John Summit’s Pete Tong allegations
Franky Rizardo just backed out of a release everyone was waiting for — and the reason traces back to a promise Pete Tong allegedly never kept.
Dutch DJ and producer Franky Rizardo canceled the release of his remix of Everything But The Girl’s “Missing” on July 8 after John Summit publicly accused music industry veteran Pete Tong of misappropriating production work from a separate collaboration.
The dispute erupted when John Summit posted a series of allegations on the social media platform X, claiming Pete Tong had agreed to release an orchestral remix of “Missing” that the two had developed together through Pete Tong’s FFRR label. Instead, John Summit alleged, Tong released a different version of the track with Franky Rizardo that incorporated elements of John Summit’s production work.

“Hey @petetong thanks for promising to release my missing remix with u (while doing nothing in terms of production) then jacking my remix to release with franky rizardo,” John Summit wrote. “[Real] class act you are. to think i actually looked up to u too.”
John Summit said he had since completed the orchestral version on his own and planned to premiere it during upcoming performances. “Thanks for zero help,” he added. He also said he did not believe Franky Rizardo was aware of the full history behind the project and clarified that his frustration was directed at Pete Tong, not Rizardo.
The Tong-Rizardo version of “Missing” had been scheduled for release July 17 and had already been played during festival sets this summer. Following John Summit’s posts, Franky Rizardo announced on X that he was withdrawing from the release.
“After learning more today about the background surrounding this release, I’ve come to the conclusion that it no longer feels right for me to be part of it,” Franky Rizardo wrote. He said the decision was “not about taking sides or blaming anyone” and that the remix would instead remain a set-only track in his live performances.
As of Thursday, Pete Tong had not publicly responded to John Summit’s allegations. Representatives for Pete Tong and Franky Rizardo did not immediately confirm additional details about how the release came together.
