Pacha cancels Solomun’s outdoor Ibiza showcase amid public backlash
Pacha explains why it decided to pull the plug on a special open air showcase despite saying the event was never about profit
Just days after announcing a special outdoor edition of Diynamic with Solomun, Pacha has officially canceled the event scheduled for July 11 at Cantera Can Coix in San Antonio, Ibiza. In a statement shared on social media, the decision came after an unexpected wave of public criticism surrounding the showcase, despite believing the concept initially had local support.
According to Pacha, the event was envisioned as a celebration centered entirely on music and the island that has long been synonymous with dance culture. The venue and concept were presented as an opportunity to create a different kind of experience alongside Solomun, but organizers said the conversation quickly shifted beyond the event itself.
The statement also emphasized that the cancellation was not driven by financial concerns. Pacha acknowledged that canceling the event was an easy decision from a business perspective but an emotional one for everyone involved.
While Pacha did not elaborate on the backlash, discussion across social media has pointed to broader tensions within Ibiza’s evolving nightlife landscape. Some online commenters claimed competing promoters threatened boycotts and protests because events were already taking place at the venue, although those claims remain unverified.
For years, conversations around Ibiza have centered on the balance between internationally recognized brands and the smaller promoters, independent venues, and community driven gatherings that helped shape the island’s identity.
Although the Diynamic Outdoor showcase has been canceled, Solomun’s summer in Ibiza continues. His long running Solomun+1 residency at Pacha Ibiza remains on the calendar, while Pacha ICONS is also set to host additional open air events at Destino Five Ibiza throughout the season.
