Zeds Dead releases surprise new album ‘Return to the Return’

Zeds Dead drops a surprise album, ‘Return to the Return ’, as a prequel to their previous release, ‘Return to the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness’.

Zeds Dead dropped ‘Return to the Return’ on Monday night, giving fans only a day’s notice before unveiling their creative masterminds. This sudden midnight release offers sounds from the past, present, and future, inviting listeners to continue the journey alongside them, with fourteen new tracks.

DC and Hooks discuss their inspiration for ‘Return to the Return’, noting the influential draws from NASA’s Voyager mission, as well as Peanut Butter Wolf, RJD2, Madlib, and DJ Shadow. Their sampling and narrative approaches helped build entire worlds, something Zeds Dead leans into for this project.

Those influences were part of the inspiration behind the transmissions of sound, or “channel-flipping,” an evolving theme that began appearing in Zeds Dead sets around the release of ‘Return to the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness.‘ While Zeds Dead are firmly rooted in electronic music, many of their releases, including this one, pull inspiration from hip-hop, pop culture, graffiti art, sampling culture, and more.

‘Return to the Return’ includes a visual album, available now on Zeds Dead’s YouTube Channel. Less than 24 hours after the release, fans are flooding social media with praise, sharing thousands of positive reactions to the boys’ project. This release comes after another huge announcement: the boys’ hiatus for 2027, paired with their ‘Journey of a Lifetime’ Tour.

For those lucky enough to have been in New York’s East Village earlier this week, you may have noticed a ‘Return to the Return’ mural that quietly popped up. This summer is shaping up to be one for the rude boys, with ‘Return to the Return’ evoking feelings of nostalgia, bliss, and an inner knowing that everything is going to be okay. DC and Hooks have done it again.
