Carly Simon to release first album of originals since 2008

Carly Simon has returned with a deeply personal new album, Comes In Waves, marking her first original release in years.

Carly Simon is stepping back into the spotlight with a long-overdue new album. The legendary singer-songwriter has announced ‘Comes In Waves’, her first album of original material since 2008. She has scheduled the album release for August 14, 2026.

The record came together mostly at her Martha’s Vineyard home. It’s reflective without being heavy, personal without trying too hard to be profound. Furthermore, rather than leaning on nostalgia, Simon’s latest work is forward-looking and emotionally grounded.

The album title comes from a track called “Slowly,” and it fits. Everything moves in cycles: feelings rise, fall, come back again. Nothing is fixed, and that’s kind of the point. The record doesn’t try to wrap things up neatly, but rather lets them exist.

The first taste is “Howl,” which opens the album and sets the tone right away. Co-written and produced with David Spencer, the track leans into anger, betrayal, and the slow shift toward letting go. It’s raw, but controlled, like she’s letting you watch the emotion unfold in stream-of-consciousness.

What stands out most is how natural it all feels. Six decades into her career, Simon still sounds unmistakably herself. ‘Comes In Waves’ revisits familiar themes of love, family, and memory with maturity, while allowing room for contradiction and unresolved feelings.

There’s also a strong sense of family and history running through the project. Her son Ben Taylor is all over the album, contributing as a musician and producer, while her daughter Sally adds vocals and even handles the single artwork. There’s also a posthumous appearance from John Forté, which adds a subtle emotional weight.
