Texas legend DJ Avenger dies in car crash following MLB performance

Erick “DJ Avenger” Del Campo, a fixture in the Texas DJ community, passed away on June 8 after a car crash following an MLB performance.

The Texas music community is grieving the loss of Erick Del Campo, the DJ known as DJ Avenger, who died in a car crash just hours after performing at his first-ever Texas Rangers MLB game. On the night of June 7, Del Campo performed at Globe Life Field during a Texas Rangers and Cleveland Guardians game. His brother Mike said getting to perform at an MLB game was something Erick had wanted his whole life. A dream come true, right before the end.

In the early hours of June 8, his vehicle collided with another on US Highway 80, and both drivers were taken to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. A few hours later, Del Campo was pronounced dead. The Mesquite Police Department is currently investigating. The other driver sustained injuries but survived. His brother spoke with People Magazine, saying, “I would be asleep, getting ready for school the next day, and he’d be up having his headphones on, and I’d hear the music. I’m, like, in shock, just like everybody else. Erick, just know I love you, man.”

Del Campo spent decades building his name across Texas, playing American Airlines Center, Texas Live, and countless events that made up the fabric of the Texan music scene. The tributes pouring in from fellow DJs and fans paint a picture of someone as generous offstage as he was talented onstage. A devoted family man, a friend who showed up, and a performer who loved what he did.
