Diplo performs at son’s kindergarten graduation

Diplo took over the decks at his son’s kindergarten graduation party, playing to a crowd of juiced-up new grads; it’s one of his newer side quests.

Diplo has headlined Coachella and Stagecoach. He’s performed at Ultra, Glastonbury, and pretty much every other stage worth naming. This past week, he added his son’s kindergarten graduation to the list. The DJ and producer, currently in hot water with the dance community after he claimed to be a big fan of AI-created music, added a more wholesome side quest to his belt. He posted a reel to Instagram showing him behind the decks at his son’s graduation ceremony, because apparently, that is just something that happens in the life of Diplo and his children.

Most kids get a teacher clapping and a little paper diploma, maybe a barbecue if they are lucky. His kid got a full DJ set from one of the most booked artists on the planet. Diplo is a father of three boys and has been fairly open over the years about the balance needed between life on the road and being present for his kids. This set feels less like a publicity stunt, which, to Diplo’s credit, is hard to tell the difference between these days, but more like a guy who just showed up in the only way he really knows how. Which, credit where it’s due, is a very specific kind of dad energy, and this version of a dad is a globally touring artist.

This comes just weeks after Diplo sparked a full-blown industry meltdown with comments he made on a podcast, in which he basically told listeners there is no winning against AI and that creatives need to get with it or lose their edge. He also mentioned he no longer needs real singers because he can just pull the best vocals from AI instead. The backlash hit quickly, and to recap his past month, Diplo alienated a massive chunk of the music community and also DJ’d his kid’s kindergarten graduation. Truly a man doing it all, for better or worse.
