What is the new Apple Music feature, Playlist Playground?

Apple Music dropped new AI-powered playlist generator with IOS 26.4 update

Apple Music is set to debut Playlist Playground with the brand new iOS 26.4 update coming in Spring 2026. This is a brand-new feature using Apple Intelligence to generate the perfect playlist for users. The AI generated playlist maker will create a brand new playlist in seconds after being plugged in with simple text prompts. 

These conversational prompts are set to curate playlists that perfectly match a user’s description, eliminating the need for manual searching. With this new feature, the AI will handle most of the heavy lifting, automating the entire playlist building process. Some examples of promts include building playlists around genre, artists, weather, season, color, and more.

Users running iOS 26.4 can find the Playlist Playground field by heading to the Library tab in Apple Music, tapping Playlists, and selecting the New Playlist button. Unlike third-party tools, Playlist Playground leverages direct access to a user’s Apple Music library and listening history, which allows it to craft deeply personalized playlists. All the playlists created are are meant to perfectly align with the users’ unique taste.

Moreover, as of its launch in 2026, the feature has been labeled as a “beta” test. This means that Apple will most likely be refining how the AI tool works, especially as more users share their feedback. But for now, the feature is meant to be that shortcut for users who want to discover new artists in a genere they love, or build a specific playlist based on their mood instantly.

The feature will generate a playlist of roughly 25 songs and create a custom title each time. Once created, the playlists behave like any other playlist historcially on the app. Meaning, users can edit them manually, share with friends, as well as download them for offline listening.

At launch, the Playlist Playgrounf feature will be exclusively available on iOS and iPadiOS. It is currently not avaialable on the macOS Music app, though any playist made in Playground can be listened to on a users mobile device from a macbook
