What are the best Tel Aviv festivals for electronic dance music?
Where, when, and what are some of Tel Aviv’s dance music festivals that are best-known and most popular?
Tel Aviv’s music scene blends global music brands, underground city events, and desert gatherings, mostly rooted in psytrance culture. Maccabi House, made up of Adam Ten and Mita Gami, was founded in Tel Aviv, and has been taking over the airwaves in the States. Prior to the last few years, there have been immersions from beachfront to full-scale immersive productions, and the city offers a mix of music experiences.
Doof Festival, once widely considered the backbone of the Middle East’s psytrance scene, blends underground rave culture with the energy of a large-scale festival. Launched in 2004, the multi-day event takes place along the beaches of the Sea of Galilee, bringing together thousands of attendees for a nonstop, 72-hour party with trance, techno, and experimental electronic music. Dates for 2026 have not been announced, and they now have an Australian offshoot.
There was also a festival called Midburn, an offshoot of Burning Man, which held its own distinct event annually in the Negev desert. The event wasn’t a traditional music festival. Similar to Burning Man, there are no official lineups or headliners, but dance music is at the heart of the festival. The festival features massive sound camps to sunrise DJ sets and camping.
At the same time, Israel’s position on the global stage remains complex and contested, with ongoing war shaping international perception and festival bookings. In the past few years, the rate of festivals in Tel Aviv has decreased as Israel’s government has enacted and participated in multiple wars in the Middle East. Exron focuses solely on the music, culture, and community that define dance scenes across the globe, including those located in contested countries like Tel Aviv, and does not comment on geopolitical warfare or current events.
