John Summit’s pop-up run lands at Red Rocks ahead of ‘CTRL ESCAPE’ album
John Summit has touched down at Red Rocks Amphitheatre this week for a special open-to-close pop-up, continuing a cross-country run of shows ahead of his debut album ‘CTRL ESCAPE’.
The April 8 takeover, running from 5:30 -10 p.m., marked the latest stop following surprise events in Los Angeles and New York, each curated to build momentum for the upcoming release. With no openers scheduled, John Summit commanded the stage solo for four and a half wild hours, using the extended format to showcase the full spectrum of his beloved sound. Fr
om tech-house staples to heavier excursions into drum & bass and dubstep, the performance mirrored the genre-blending direction teased for ‘CTRL ESCAPE’, set to arrive April 15, a.k.a. Tax Day—an ode to the star’s previous career in accounting.
‘CTRL ESCAPE’ offers a window into John Summit’s current reality—nonstop touring and performances spanning venues of all sizes. Each track is said to stand as its own world, tracing a journey through the past and present of dance music.
At Red Rocks, fans were treated to a heavy dose of unreleased material, with IDs, demos, and early versions woven seamlessly between established favorites. The approach gave the night a sense of unpredictability, as Summit tested new ideas in real time against one of the most iconic backdrops for music in the U.S.
Midway through the set, Julia Church joined Summit on stage for a live debut of “Shades of Blue,” their unreleased collaboration with Devault, before also performing “Go Back,” his iconic track with Sub Focus. The live vocals added an emotional layer to a set otherwise driven by high-energy transitions and club-focused experimentation.
John Summit recently dropped “CHICA 305” alongside Latin superstar Feid, a playful and flirtatious track that captures the electric feeling of locking eyes with someone across a packed dance floor. He also hinted at another potential pop-up on his Instagram story this week, suggesting the run may not be over just yet. Either way, the DJ shows no signs of slowing down as he builds toward his Tax Day album release.
