Ultra hosts special performance led by Swedish House Mafia & friends

History was made at Ultra 2026 with Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack, and Eric Prydz.

Ultra Music Festival Miami 2026 delivered a historic moment for EDM, as Swedish House Mafia staged a surprise full reunion on Saturday, March 28th. In the days leading up to the performance, subtle hints at a surprise performance from the third member of Swedish House Mafia began to surface.

Speculation intensified when fans spotted a shared screenshot of a group chat featuring Axwell, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Afrojack, strongly hinting that something bigger was in the works. By the time Saturday arrived, those paying attention had a sense that a major moment was coming.

Originally slated as a partial appearance, fans were still stunned when all three SHM members took the stage together, instantly transforming the night into a landmark event. What followed was more than a set: it was a carefully orchestrated tribute to their legacy and the broader Swedish electronic music movement they helped pioneer. The performance was framed as a “festival within a festival,” elevating Ultra’s mainstage into something far more immersive and symbolic.

Midway through the set, the energy surged even higher with the arrival of Afrojack, whose presence added a nostalgic nod to the golden era of progressive and big room house. Known for shaping the global EDM sound in the early 2010s, his inclusion underscored the magnitude of the moment.

Another defining point of the night came with the appearance of Eric Prydz. Long considered part of the original Stockholm circle that gave rise to Swedish House Mafia, Prydz has historically remained independent, never officially joining the group. Yet during this set, Swedish House Mafia embraced that history, referring to him as the “true fourth member,” a powerful acknowledgment that was met with the hollering of an uproarious crowd.

The moment felt like a full-circle reunion of the “Original Four,” bridging past and present in a way that few performances ever achieve. From era-defining anthems like “One (Your Name)” and “Don’t You Worry Child” to Prydz’s melodic masterpieces like “Pjanoo,” the set served as both celebration and canonization.

In one of the most emotional moments of the set, Swedish House Mafia paid tribute to Avicii, one of the most influential figures in electronic music. During the performance, a member climbed onto the DJ decks and draped an Avicii flag over his shoulders, waving it out toward the crowd. The gesture was simple yet deeply powerful, an homage to a late great artist whose impact continues to shape the genre. For many in attendance, it was a profoundly poignant and magnanimous moment, uniting the crowd in collective remembrance and underscoring the enduring legacy of Avicii within the global EDM community.

In a festival known for spectacle, this was something more: a cultural milestone and collective unification. Ultra 2026 did it again: bringing countries from all around the world to the oasis of Miami to bask in the energy, zest, and joy of electronic music.
