Elijah Wood will DJ sold-out Lord of the Rings rave in Denver
For one night in Denver, Elijah Wood will not be saving Middle-earth; he will be saving the Lord of the Rings rave dance floor.
Elijah Wood is bringing the Shire to the dance floor in one of Colorado’s most thriving music cities. The actor best known for playing Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings trilogy will DJ a sold-out, Middle-earth-themed rave in Denver on May 31 at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom.
What many fans may not know is that Wood has quietly built a second career as a DJ. He performs as one half of Wooden Wisdom, a vinyl-only DJ duo he shares with Hollywood music supervisor Zach Cowie. The pair have been performing together for 15 years, playing festivals and clubs around the world, though their project has largely flown under the radar.
The Denver show marks the 25th anniversary of the first Lord of the Rings film, and costumes are encouraged. The event is already sold out, making it the hottest Hobbit-themed party the city has seen. Wood will also appear at Fan Expo Denver at the Colorado Convention Center from May 28 to May 31, joining fellow hobbit actors Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd for a panel discussion celebrating 25 years of the franchise.
The rave caps what shapes up to be a full Lord of the Rings weekend in Denver. Fans who spend the day with Wood at Fan Expo can follow him to the dance floor that same night at Cervantes, where he and Cowie are expected to spin rare gems and beloved classics with an emphasis on 1970s and 1980s disco.
The vinyl-only format is a reflection of Wood’s serious record-collecting credentials. He has long insisted he is a legitimate DJ, making a point to clarify that he does not perform under the alias DJ Frodo, calling the notion “unequivocally false.”
Tickets for the Denver show are gone, but Wood and Cowie have additional U.S. dates planned in Orlando, Kansas City and Dallas for fans who missed out.
