Bassnectar announces end of hiatus amid ongoing controversy

Will Bassnectar’s hiatus come to a close? According to him, yes.

Bassnectar has signaled a new chapter in his career, declaring that his long-standing hiatus is officially over. In a recent social media post, Lorin wrote, “2026 is a year of new beginnings and re-awakenings,” adding that while there had been “occasional shows or releases” in recent years, he is now moving “into a brand new future for Bassnectar and bass music.”

The announcement marks a notable shift after years of limited and often fragmented activity. Bassnectar first stepped away from the spotlight in July 2020 following widespread allegations of sexual misconduct, which triggered significant backlash across the dance music community. In 2021, a civil lawsuit brought by three women alleged sexual abuse, human trafficking, and other serious claims tied to the period between 2012 and 2016.

After several years of legal proceedings and attempted low-profile returns, including members-only events and selective releases, the case was dismissed with prejudice in February 2025 following a confidential settlement. According to available details, there was no admission of guilt or finding of liability, and Bassnectar has consistently denied all allegations.

Despite the legal resolution, public sentiment remains sharply divided. Reactions to the announcement highlight the ongoing polarization surrounding his return. Some fans expressed excitement and emotional connection, with one commenting, “I need to see Bassnectar live again,” while others voiced skepticism or frustration, questioning both the messaging and the nature of the comeback. Comments such as “What does this even mean?” and critiques of the “hiatus” framing underscore lingering distrust within parts of the community.

Even fellow artists and industry observers have weighed in, pointing to the complexity of separating the music from the individual. While some acknowledge a continued fanbase supporting his work, others emphasize accountability and the broader cultural impact of the controversy.

As of now, no official tour dates or major public events have been confirmed. Still, the language of “new beginnings” suggests a more deliberate and sustained re-entry into the music scene. Whether this signals a full-scale comeback or another phase of gradual re-engagement remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Bassnectar’s return is as contentious as it is closely watched.
