Deep Tropics Equinox announces abrupt cancellation 48 hours before festival
Deep tropics forced to proceed with Last-minute cancellation due to failed inspection and venue challenges.
Deep Tropics Equinox was set to debut its Nashville edition on March 20–21, with a lineup featuring It’s Murph, Green Velvet, and Claude VonStroke. However, on March 18, organizers issued a statement announcing that, following a failed Metro inspection earlier that afternoon, they would no longer be able to host the event. The team shared that there was no viable path to meet the required criteria within the given timeframe. They also noted that efforts to secure an alternative venue were unsuccessful, leading to the festival’s official cancellation.
“As a result, we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel Deep Tropics Equinox. This marks the first time in our history that we’ve had to do so, and it is by far the biggest hurdle we’ve faced.”
The festival had initially been marketed as an outdoor experience before a last-minute update placed the event at Warehouse Residency instead of Bicentennial Park Amphitheater. The shift, combined with the sudden cancellation, prompted a wave of reactions across social media.
Some attendees expressed skepticism. One commenter wrote, “This screams, ‘We didn’t sell enough tickets.’ 1. The Valentine’s discount. 2. Removing Green Velvet. 3. Downgrading the venue.”
Others came to the festival’s defense. One user shared, “When I attended this event last year, it was so beautifully put together. Many of you have no idea the risk it takes to bring something new and magical to life in a place like Nashville. It is a super tough business. Deep Tropics really wants to make something beautiful for all of us. Y’all keep supporting live events! I can’t wait for the next evolution of this event.”
Another added, “Changed venues, no inspections before stating they found a new venue. Love Deep Tropics, but a lot of this seems like very poor planning.”
Deep Tropics also acknowledged the impact on both local attendees and those traveling from out of town, stating, “We know a lot of you made plans around this, and we feel that disappointment with you.”
The statement confirmed that all tickets will be fully refunded.
