Avicii’s legal dispute ends as Swedish court dismisses former manager’s lawsuit

While the Swedish court shuts down Ash Pournouri’s lawsuit, the battle over the late EDM icon’s legacy may be far from over.

A long-running legal dispute tied to the legacy of Avicii has reached a major turning point. A Swedish district court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Arash “Ash” Pournouri, the late artist’s former manager. This brings an initial conclusion to a case that has revisited some of the most sensitive chapters surrounding Tim Bergling’s career and passing.

Pournouri managed Avicii from 2008 to 2016, and filed the lawsuit in late 2025 for defamation and breach of contract against the artist’s estate and related parties. The case focused on how he has been portrayed in several posthumous works, including the documentary Avicii: True Stories and books chronicling Bergling’s life and career.

According to Pournouri, these projects have presented a narrative suggesting he pushed the superstar DJ beyond healthy limits, contributing to burnout and mental health struggles that preceded Bergling’s tragic death in 2018. He has argued that these depictions have been inaccurate and damaging to his reputation. stressing that the lawsuit aimed to clarify the historical record instead of seeking financial gain.

However, the Stockholm District Court has dismissed the case on procedural grounds. Judge Linda Rantén has ruled that the claim did not meet the technical requirements required under Swedish law for the type of legal action Pournouri pursued. Lawyers representing the Avicii estate have described the outcome as expected.

Thomas Olsson, attorney for the Avicii entities, called the lawsuit “completely unfounded,” noting that it was unfortunate the matter had continued to draw attention. Meanwhile, Tim Bergling’s father, Klas Bergling, has expressed sadness that his son’s name has remained part of the legal conflict, mentioning that neither he nor Avicii’s mother has ever blamed Pournouri for their son’s death.

Despite the dismissal, the legal story may not be over. Pournouri has indicated plans to appeal the decision, stating he remains committed to establishing what he believes is an accurate account of events through the courts. For now, the ruling has closed one chapter in a complex narrative that continues to shape how Avicii’s legacy is remembered.
