Calvin Harris breaks record for highest attendance for DJ act in São Paulo
1.6 million people showed up to see Calvin Harris DJ in Brazil.
Calvin Harris recently broke the record for the highest attendance at a DJ set in São Paulo. This record-shattering audience of 1.6 million people flooded the streets of the Brazilian city for its pre-carnival street party. He has now joined the ranks of the largest crowds gathered for a singular DJ set in history.
Based on historically recorded attendance for standalone DJ sets, the record for the biggest crowd is held by Jean-Michel Jarre, who in 1997 gathered an estimated 3.5 million people for his headline performance commissioned to celebrate the 850th anniversary of the city of Moscow. The free, open-air concert was held in front of Moscow State University and holds the record for the largest audience at a singular music event not affiliated with a festival.

Following Jean-Michel Jarre is Alok, whose New Year’s Eve party for 2026 attracted a whopping 2.5 million visitors to Rio de Janeiro to say goodbye to 2025. This celebration took place on Copacabana Beach and set the Guinness World Record for the largest New Year’s party in the world.
The third largest crowd recorded was in 1990, when Jean-Michel Jarre returned to Paris to host a performance at La Défense, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution. This performance was recorded to have 2.5 million people in attendance.
On February 8th, Calvin Harris performed a free pre-carnival set in the center of São Paulo from atop a truck (electric trio) in front of an estimated 1.6 million people. This was Harris’ debut performance at Bloco Skol along Rua da Consolação and his first time DJing in a street carnival format. The appearance marked his return to the country after an 11-year hiatus.
It is a milestone year for the artist, as he is set to make his highly anticipated debut at Tomorrowland Belgium 2026 and take over the Mainstage of the beloved festival.
